Clay Bar, General Purpose, Blue, 200 gram

Now you can get a truly clean surface before you glaze and wax without resorting to abrasives with the revolutionary clay bar.  

  Always wash your paint before using a clay bar.  Meguiars M62, Professional Car Wash Shampoo, 3D Pink Soap (pure shampoos) or Meguiar's D11101 Shampoo Plus, 3D Wash N Wax (shampoos plus "Glossifiers") are all excellent choices.  However, when you wash your paint you only remove water soluble materials.  What about the road tar, grease, tree sap, rail dust, hard water deposits, etc. which soapy water can't dissolve and remove?  That's what a clay bar is all about.  It will remove all the non-water soluble paint contaminants.  Safe to use on all paint, glass, chrome, plastic, etc.

  Before the clay bar came along, I used to resort to mild abrasive cleaners to get a really clean surface to work with. Over the years the paint eventually wore thin.  The clay bar offers a safe option to fix common paint problems; saving time, money and possible further damage.  With the advent of body clay, paint contaminants can be removed quickly and safely.  

  This 200 gram, general purpose bar, is the industry's standard size, and is designed to pull commonly encountered contaminants off your car's paint and other surfaces.  It is a bit firmer than the Gray Clay and is easier to handle in hot weather.  You can find it in a smaller 100 gram size if you have a small need and for you who have a GREATER need, check out the new, "Clay Bar Replacement" products - "Clay" Cloth, "Clay" Pads and "Clay" Mitts!

More aggressive bars are seldom a good idea and leave clay debris on the surface taht will need to be polished off.  A clay bar will overpower the tackiness of the contaminant but will NOT remove oxidation because it is not abrasive. You need an abrasive cleaner for that. See Meguiars M02 Fine Cut Cleaner, etc., under "Compounds/Cleaner". 

 A lubricant, like Meguiars M34, Final Inspection or any other mist & wipe, must be used with any clay bar.  The bar uses tackiness to do the work and the paint must be lubricated or the bar will drag.  The lubricant will cause the bar to "hydroplane" over the surface and protect the paint from contact but will still allow bar to reach the contaminants.  Soapy water will lubricate but will tend to degrade the clay bar and shorten it's life.

 How-to:

 The method recommended to remove any contaminant with the clay bar is simple.   

1.  Start with only a portion of the bar – generally a quarter of it’s length.  

2.  Use a water-based lubricant to help the clay glide over the paint surface.   Do not use with soapy water because soap may degrade the clay.  All the “Mist & Wipe” products are ideal.  The doctor recommends Meguiars M34, Final Inspection.  Spray the lubricant with a trigger sprayer over the area to be cleaned.  Limit the area to, maybe, 2’x2’

3.   “Knead” the clay out to form a flat surface and lightly rub the lubricated area with much the same motion as when washing.  Rubbing should not be hard, the clay works with minimal pressure.

4.  Once the clay gets loaded up with contaminants, you simply ball it up and knead it out once again.  A quarter bar may be able to do a couple cars.

5.  Secure the clay after use in a clean container like a baggie.

Caution should be used not to drop the clay on the ground.  If this happens, the clay will pickup any soil on the ground which will rendered it useless if not dangerous to your paint.  THROW IT AWAY!
